I had previously heard rumors of Radiohead working on material for their new studio release earlier this year. Now, Ed O’Brien officially announced yesterday that the band will be heading back into the studio to continue working on what they started this past summer. For those that don’t know, Radiohead is my FAVORITE band and I honestly do believe that they’re just that much better than all others! The most exciting thing, equally scary, about Radiohead is that you can never predict what new music from them is going to sound like, yet you know it will unabashedly be Radiohead. No words on release or title, but I will most definitely keep ya’ll posted. Here’s what Ed had to say via Dead Air Space:
The vibe in the camp is fantastic at present, and we head off into the studio in January to continue on from the work we started last Summer .. I am so genuinely excited about what we’re doing, but for obvious reasons I can’t divulge anything more.. anyway we all love surprises don’t we? 10 years ago we were all collectively (that’s the band) in the land of Kid A .. and although hugely proud of that record, it wasn’t a fun place to be .. What’s reassuring now, is that we are most definitely a different band, which should therefore mean that the music is different too and that is the aim of the game….keep it moving.
2010 is shaping up to be a monster…

Looks like two of comedy’s most classic characters are making a return and this time it’ll be on the big screen. If you’re Black and aren’t up on Sheneneh & Wanda, I don’t know what to say. If you aren’t Black, then you get a pass. It looks as though the brief spoof Martin Lawrence & Jamie Foxx did for the BET Awards gained enough buzz to bring this dream collaboration to fruition. Its a testament to their careers as comedians how characters they created over a decade ago still strike a chord with soo many people. The article below has more details via Variety.com:
Screen Gems has acquired “Sheneneh and Wanda,” a comic vehicle for Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence to star in a comic caper film, playing female characters they developed during their stand up comedy days.
Foxx will write the script and he and Martin will produce together through Foxx’s Foxxhole and Lawrence’s Runteldat production banners.
The project originated as a parody of a movie trailer for a film called “Skank Robbers,” which Foxx and Lawrence made for the BET Awards. The reaction was strong enough that the duo decided to turn the concept into a real film.
In the comedy, Sheneneh and Wanda are modern day independent women trying to make it on their own, one bank robbery at a time.
Foxx and Lawrence have long tried to find a vehicle to work together, and Screen Gems Clint Culpepper is fast tracking the production.
This will be interesting, I’ll keep ya’ll posted as production on the movie unfolds..

No official word has be made from the Cash Money camp following the verdict of his 2007 gun-charge case. What has been reported is that Lil’ Wayne has accepted a plea bargain that will certainly land him in jail for at least 8-10 months. Basically, a T.I. bid. I’m not crystal clear on every detail surrounding this case, seeing as how it is over a year old, but a little reading has revealed to me that it may be a set up. Apparently, lawmakers like publicity also, and one sure fire way to get their agenda’s across is by taking advantage of celebrities in “sticky” situations. Word is that back in 2007 when Wayne’s tour bus was stopped by police, upon entering the bus, the cops weren’t even sure which passenger was Wayne. Reportedly, Lil’ Wayne’s manager claimed ownership of the weapon that Lil’ Wayne eventually ended up being charged for. Something smells fishy, and I hope that the truth comes to light so Lil’ Wayne isn’t held responsible for someone else’s time. Here’s an excerpt from a MTV.com article on the matter:
NEW YORK — Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to felony gun possession in a Manhattan courtroom on Thursday (October 22) stemming from a July 2007 arrest following his first headlining concert in New York. The rapper will be sentenced to one year in prison as a part of his plea deal and must also give up his passport. Wayne quietly told the judge yes when asked if he understood the terms of the plea he was making.
Asked what type of gun he possessed, Wayne said, “A .40-caliber semi-automatic.”
Wayne had black jeans, a gray coat, white T-shirt and blue Chucks. He was accompanied by the CEOs of his label, Cash Money Records, Bryan “Baby” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams.
The hearing began at 10:05 a.m. ET and was over in 20 minutes.
About 20 minutes after the hearing ended, Lil Wayne exited the building, covering his head with the hood of his coat. Photographers and reporters followed as court officials escorted him to his vehicle. In response to many reporters’ questions, all Wayne said was, “What’s up?”

WORD: Compton’s Y.G. signs to Def Jam
Filed Under WORD | Leave a Comment

Y.G., a rising star on the Los Angeles scene has inked a deal with Def Jam! This is big news and I’m happy for Y.G. and all of the homies involved with his career (Shouts to JSP!)! Although Y.G.’s talents will definitely outgrow the Jerk movement, currently his buzz centers around LA’s Jerk scene. The Jerk scene has received much flack from the older generation of rappers in Los Angeles, but the relevance of it is fresh and undeniable. Below is an excerpt from The LA Time’s announcing the Def Jam signing. Another thing that stood out to me in the article is the acknowledgement that label A&R’s are being directed towards Los Angeles for new talent. And why not? There’s simply too much talent out here for LA to continue going unnoticed. Its LA’s time! Check out the excerpt:
Since Warren G’s “Regulate…G Funk Era” gave Def Jam/Rush Associated Labels a much needed hit in 1994, arriving just as reports of the label’s insolvency surfaced, the New York-based powerhouse has largely steered clear of West Coast rap, hewing almost exclusively to East Coast and Southern artists like Jay-Z, Ghostface Killah and Method Man, as well as Young Jeezy. But as the legendary imprint prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary, the label has returned to the Southland, inking a deal with Compton’s Y.G., a rapper loosely affiliated with the jerkin’ movement, and one who has amassed an impressive regional following sans radio or commercial backing.
Best known for a series of scabrous sex-themed songs with unprintable titles, the 19-year-old has swapped gang life for the recording booth and hasn’t looked back, racking up enviable MySpace metrics: over 1.5 million profile views, a pair of songs with over 1 million plays each and a third approaching seven digits.
According to Max Gousse, the senior VP of A&R at Island/Def Jam who inked the rapper, the signing stemmed from a newfound emphasis on West Coast artists by label president/CEO L.A. Reid, as well as, of course, Y.G.’s skills and stage presence.

Congrats to Y.G.!

Dear Young Warriors fighting the wrong wars! Killing each other is definitely played out. Being hurt from the lost of a love one was never cool.
Dear Young Warriors fighting the wrong war! I know that feeling, that frustration with life and needing to take it out on someone, any one. But….
We chose the dumbest things to go the hardest for. I remember seeing deaths over 8 ball jackets, Fila sneakers, and name plate chains. Deaths over “he say, she say”!!!!! “I’m from this block or I’m from that block”, or “my moms n pops is f*cked up now the whole world gotta pay”!!!
I remember feeling like I was the hardest “n*gga” breathing. And I couldn’t wait to prove it. But let’s think. What are we really proving?? And proving what to who?? Everybody knows Chicago breeds the strongest of the strong but I just feel, me, being ya brother from another state feels your pain as if I grew up with you in ya very own household.
You have the ability and mindpower to change they way we are looked at. Look who’s watching us young warriors, look who’s throwing us in jail constantly, look at the ignorance in the world. Look at the racist dogs who love to see us down. Loving to bury us in the ground or in jail where we continue this worthless war on one another.
Young warriors…. We are WASTING more and more time. We gotta get on our jobs and take over the world. Cuz this movie left the theaters years ago, Juice, Menace, Boys n the Hood , Blood n Blood Out, Belly!
When we see each other why do we see hatred? Why were we born in a storm, born soldiers, WARRIORS….and instead of building each other up we are at war with each other.. May the soul of this young person find peace with the almighty. I’m with you young warriors. You’re me and I’m you. But trust me! you are fighting the wrong war.
This sh*t sucks !!

To gain some kind of clarity regarding the situation with 16 year old Derrion Albert and I came across something called The Bystander Effect (see the case of Kitty Genovese)
The bystander effect is a social psychological phenomenon in which individuals are less likely to offer help in an emergency situation when other people are present. The probability of help is inversely proportional to the number of bystanders. In other words, the greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is that any one of them will help.
I still say man up and help out but…..word, I guess.

WORD: Unreleased Tupac Vibe Interview Pt. 3
Filed Under WORD | 2 Comments
As promised, Vibe.com dropped part three of an interview they did with Tupac. In this portion of the interview, he talks about his reasoning for bringing Thug Life about, what fueled his anger, the backlash he received after being shot and un-rightfully jailed and compares the album sales of All Eyez On Me to Ready 2 Die. During this time I remember being such a fan of Pac’s that I wouldn’t give Biggie the time of day. Although many years have passed and I eventually absorbed Biggie’s catalog, I can still clearly see why Tupac was who he was, and why Biggie was who he was. And I can see why Tupac IS the greatest of all time. Period. Ya’ll enjoy, part four should be dropping soon.

WORD: 5 Things Your Cell Phone Can Do
Filed Under WORD | 3 Comments
Pretty much everyone has a cell phone. The people behind the creation of cell phone technology included some capabilities that the average person may not be aware of (how that helps the average person is beyond me). I think its only right that everyone be put up on game about these little known cell phone features. So here’s 5 things your cell phone can do that you probably didn’t know:
For all the folks with cell phones. (This should be printed and kept in your car, purse, and wallet. Good information to have with you.)
There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies.
Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:
FIRST: Emergency
The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an Emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly, this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.
SECOND: Have you locked your keys in the car?
Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys In the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other ‘remote’ for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
Editor’s Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked Our car over a cell phone!’
THIRD: Hidden Battery Power
Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370#. Your cell phone will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell phone next time.
FOURTH: How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?
To check your Mobile phone’s serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: *#06#. A 15-digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won’t get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can’t use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.
And Finally….
FIFTH: Free Directory Service for Cells
Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don’t have to. Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem.. When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial: (800)FREE411, or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now.
This is the kind of information people don’t mind receiving, so pass it on to your family and friends.

I’m sure this will be a super packed event! The ticket prices start at $75, and while that may seem pretty steep, the money is all going towards 826 National. 826 National is a non-profit organization, here’s a little background:
826 National is a nonprofit tutoring, writing, and publishing organization with locations in seven cities across the country.
