I always knew this COULD happen, but there was a little part of me that thought that this album might actually come out, but I guess Hakeem Jeffries wasn’t messing around. Well played Mr. Jeffries, well played. As for Nas, the hip hop Charlie Brown, they picked up the football again homie.

Taken from Hollywood Insider:

A representative for Def Jam has confirmed to EW.com that hip-hop artist Nas has made an eleventh-hour decision to change the title of his new album from N—– to simply Nas. The Queens rapper sparked a heated debate last fall when he announced the provocative title for his upcoming ninth record, but last October, Island Def Jam Music Group chair Antonio “L.A.” Reid publicly denied widespread reports that label execs were uncomfortable with his decision. “We stand firmly behind and beside our artists with pride and with pleasure,” Reid told MTV News at the time. “Anything Nas wants to do, I completely stand beside him.”

It pretty much does sound like the same exact shit he’s been putting out, no real progression. But if you’re a Dwele fan, then you will love this.

So MTV is doing that Hottest MC list again, and I can already hear people groaning and moaning about it. Oh well, it’s MTV…what are you gonna do?

Why He’s Hot
Hold up. Just last year, T.I. was up for debate to be #1, and now he slips to #10? What happened? First of all, let’s be clear: Tip’s decline in ranking has nothing to do with his skills. We all know that he is still one of the best in the business and his popularity is still intact. Unfortunately, since almost topping the last list, Tip had to take an unforeseen, unwelcome hiatus when he was arrested in November on a slew of gun charges, leading to more than six months of house arrest. Promotions for his platinum T.I. vs. T.I.P. came to an end. The kibosh was put on the single “Hurt” and its video. Any chance of dropping another LP at the top of ‘08 was thwarted quick. Movies, endorsements — everything shut down. He says his arrest probably cost him between $10 million and $12 million. Musically, he was inactive for months while many of his peers continued to put out sterling material.

Congrats to Kidz In The Hall for their new video for Driving Down The Block debuting at #6 on TRL!

In a shocking move for independent Hip Hop, Kidz In The Hall debuted their video “Drivin’ Down The Block” on MTV’s TRL on May 1st. Today, “Drivin’ Down The Block” reached #6 on the sought after chart for Pop music. The video, which parodies the 1980 Kurt Russell film Used Cars, is the first single from the duo of Naledge and Double-O on their Major League/Duck Down release The In Crowd.

The album releases on May 13. This position, which is Duck Down’s first ever appearance on the video countdown, may mean a wider audience for the duo who debuted in 2006 with School Was My Hustle on Rawkus Records.

The group’s manager, Dan Solomito, told industry friends, “This is remarkable news but we’re not content. Lets get it to number #1, and show the world that independent music is alive and kicking!” Citing groups like Panic At The Disco, Chris Brown and Danity Kane as competition, he urged fans of Hip Hop to vote for the single to be propelled further into seemingly uncharted territory.

Chi-town rapper Common will hit the big screen in the next release from the Terminator franchise, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

In this newest installment of the Terminator saga the futuristic tale pits humans in a war against machines, according to Variety. Christian Bale will play lead character John Connor, who leads humans in combat against the bots, while Common is set to star as Connor’s right hand man.

The movie marks another notch on Com’s acting belt, after starring in American Gangster and Street Kings. The rapper also has a part in the action flick Wanted debuting on June 27.

On the music side, Common’s trying out a different electro sound on his latest album Invincible Summer and for the first time in three years he’s bypassed mega-producer Kanye West.

Do to scheduling conflicts, Ye didn’t do one beat for the new album. Common opted to work with The Neptunes and OutKast producer Mr. DJ instead.

In related news, Common is also using his voice to encourage people to vote in the upcoming presidential election. He has recently spoken out about the controversy surrounding Sen. Barack Obama’s pastor, Jeremiah Wright, who claimed the AIDS virus was concocted by the American government. Common, also a member of Wright’s church, told Entertainment Weekly, he’s had enough of the distraction and the negative imaging of his pastor by news outlets.

“Obviously the media has an agenda,” Common told EW. “I don’t follow what the media says. I’m a thinker for myself. I encourage people to be objective. When you’re watching use your inner eye and really try and watch a person to see what you think about them because you can never really capture a person in a media blitz.”

Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins will hit theaters May 22, 2009 while Invincible Summer is set for summer ‘08 release.

Sidebar: Congrats to Common for landing this role, its good to see him stepping into new shoes to expand upon his career!

Diddy received the 2,362nd star on Hollywood’s Walk Of Fame today and he’s the first male rapper to ever get one. I thought it was Will Smith but he got his as an actor, not an artist. Even though I heard you had to pay for one of these joints, I guess it’s a good look. Diddy did it…

Congratulations to C.R.A.C (Blu & Taraach) for the release of their highly anticipated album The Piece Talks which dropped yesterday. If you haven’t already, go out and buy that joint! Don’t complain about hip hop not coming with anything dope, and then when something dope does drop you don’t support it.

Saigon speaking on the state of hip hop and his current projects.

I definitely feel that. Seems like there are way too many rappers and not enough fans. Most of the people trying to be emcees or that claim to be emcees didn’t really come up from anything to deserve the title. I remember folks had to battle, rock certain venues, and consistently put out solid material in order to earn that title. Now all you need is a homie with a computer, a microphone, Fruity Loops, and a YouTube/Myspace Music account and boom……you’re a rapper.
