While surfing on ted.com I came across this interesting video of Spencer Wells (I don’t know either, lol) speaking about the evolution of mankind into the diverse species that we are today. Any of you who remember Earth Science in school may know how continental shifts, climate, environment interactions, elevation and inter-species mixing all effect how the modern human being came to be. Its pretty interesting & sorta complex stuff. Unfortunately, since I didn’t jot down any bullet points I can’t regurgitate the number of methods scientists have created for answering the question of origin. But, nevertheless, what I can say is that Spencer Wells does it the most obvious way, DNA. Enjoy, its pretty lengthy.

TRUE: Radiohead releases new song dedicated to Harry Patch, the last surviving UK WW1 veteran.
Filed Under TRUE | Leave a Comment

Radiohead recently released a new song called Harry Patch (In Memory Of) which is dedicated to the last surviving UK veteran of World War 1. He was 111 years old. Here’s what Thom Yorke had to say about the song and Harry Patch’s influence on him.
Recently the last remaining UK veteran of the 1st world war Harry Patch died at the age of 111. I had heard a very emotional interview with him a few years ago on the Today program on Radio4. The way he talked about war had a profound effect on me. It became the inspiration for a song that we happened to record a few weeks before his death. It was done live in an abbey. The strings were arranged by Jonny. I very much hope the song does justice to his memory as the last survivor.
It would be very easy for our generation to forget the true horror of war, without the likes of Harry to remind us.
I hope we do not forget. As Harry himself said
“Irrespective of the uniforms we wore, we were all victims”.

Eminem released his highly anticipated Relapse album last Tuesday and I was really curious as to what his numbers would be for the first week, and I’m not surprised at all. Eminem sold 608,000 copies and topped the charts once again beating out everyone on the hip hop charts by a large amount. Highest release of 2009 until Relapse 2 or another great drops an album…

R.I.P Roderick Anthony Burton II A.K.A Dolla
Filed Under TRUE | 12 Comments

Roderick Anthony Burton II better known as Dolla was shot and killed around 3 PM today at the Beverly Center in Los Angeles, CA. He was only 21 years of age and signed with Akon’s Konvict Music only a few years ago in 2007. Rumor has it the altercation was stemming from an incident that occurred in Atlanta a few days prior.
The shooting occurred just after 3 p.m. at the La Cienega Boulevard entrance to the popular Westside shopping center. All entrances and exits to the popular Westside shopping mall were sealed off as police swarmed the scene.
LAPD officials said that officers were sent to the mall on a report of a group fight, possibly involving a knife. LAPD Sgt. Ronnie Crump said two suspects ran in the direction of Beverly Hills.
At a Chipotle restaurant in the mall, several people were eating when the shots rang out.
“The customers were yelling ‘close the store, close the store, because somebody is shooting,’ ” said Elsa Hernandez, general manager of the restaurant.
An employee who was behind the restaurant, near the mall’s valet parking service, saw the tail end of the dispute, Hernandez said. “He saw a lady … shooting a handgun,” Hernandez said.

While it is extremely random it is definitely respected. Lupe Fiasco, Kenna & Justin Timberlake are going to climb Africa’s Mt. Kilimanjaro in order to help raise awareness about the global water crisis.
“My dad almost died as a child from waterborne diseases in Ethiopia, and he had talked to me about digging a well there, and I thought, ‘I have too many friends who would be concerned with the subject of clean water. Maybe I can help out,” Kenna told Elle magazine.

This is dedicated to all of the people whom I had a conversation with regarding the return of Eminem and whether or not he was still relevant enough to smash on the industry again.
Em’s first single off of Relapse, “Crack A Bottle” [click to listen], set a Nielsen SoundScan record today when it became the song with the highest opening week download sales. Last week the single became iTunes’ top download, despite an unfinished version being heavily bootlegged upon its release.
With a total of 418,000 sales, “Crack A Bottle” beat out the former record holder, T.I. and Rihanna’s “Live Your Life”. Aside from the SoundScan record, “Crack A Bottle” will also reach the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart when it’s released tomorrow.
Not only will “Crack A Bottle” be featured on Eminem’s Relapse, but it will also be added to 50 Cent’s upcoming album, Before I Self Destruct. Although there is not set release date for Relapse, 50 told Hollyscoop.com last month that the album is on its way.
This is Eminem we’re talking about….what the fuck were YOU thinking?

Man, with people twittering at an all time high it was only a matter of time before someone took their twits to a whole other level. Erykah Badu (fatbabybella) and Jay Electronica (JayElectronica) decided to one up all of you and twit about the birth of their child….as it was going down!
Artists have always done strange things to win our attention, right? And lately, we’ve seen how musicians are using micro-blog site Twitter as an über-marketing tool. This weekend, one pair of artists took things further than we expected, as Erykah Badu and her beau, upstart rapper Jay Electronica, sent tweets of their daughter’s birth in real time.
The ever enigmatic Badu kick-started the experience, telling the more than 4,500 followers of her Twitter blog, “Fatbellybella”: “Morning, I’m in labor.”
The Grammy-winning singer gave updates on the time between her contractions before going AWOL. Presumably Badu was, you know, giving birth when she disappeared. But Electronica kept sending updates throughout the birth on his page, “JayElectronica.”
Badu and Electronica chose to forgo delivery in a hospital and instead opted for a home birth with a midwife. According to updates, it looked like the midwife may have been running a bit late.
“Labor has begun,” Electronica wrote. “Everybody stand back. No hospitals. No doctors. No medicine. We’re waiting for the midwife to show.”
While waiting for the midwife, Electronica described the vibe and sent messages to rapper Talib Kweli (”I’m build for this sh–”) and producer Just Blaze (”You should be here”).
