TALKIES: Iron Man 2 (Trailer)
Filed Under TALKIES | Leave a Comment
Its no doubt that the first Iron Man was a HUGE success that actually paved the way for Marvel to green-light many comics for big screen adaptations. Simultaneously, it skyrocketed Robert Downey Jr. to A-List celebrity status seemingly overnight. Now, as expected, the sequel to last years success is gearing up for release. The next chapter in the Iron Man saga features Whiplash (Mickey Rourke), Black Widow (Scarlett Johannsan), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and the guy all of us have been waiting for WAR MACHINE (this time played by Don Cheadle). Will it live up to the first one?

There’s been a lot of buzz around this ever since it was announced that this cult classic comic book would be made into a film. Kick-Ass is the story of an average kid that decides to become a superhero. It’s kinda like Superbad meets Blank Man. I’m kinda excited to see this one.

TALKIES: Bronson (Starring Tom Hardy)
Filed Under TALKIES | 2 Comments

I’ve been hearing a lot about this movie from a close friend and all he could say was that the movie was intense and after seeing the trailer for this movie I think this movie could be pretty nuts. Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, Bronson is the story of Michael Peterson (Tom Hardy) an ill-tempered 22 year old man that robs a bank for only £26.18 (about 44 bucks in dollars) and gets sentenced to 7 years, but because of his aggressive nature his sentence keeps going higher and higher. He ends up being jailed for 34 to life, 30 of which are spent in solitary confinement where he creates his alter ego and new persona, Charles Bronson, who is still known as the most violent prisoner in Britain history.

From my understanding, the filming for this movie has been completed for some time. I forget exactly the reason for the delayed release, but why dwell on such things when the trailer is finally here. I’m a big fan of the game this movie is adapted from, but I can’t help but be a bit perturbed as to why Jake Gyllenhaal is playing the Prince of Persia. It comes as no surprise though, Hollywood isn’t a stranger to casting caucasians in roles that would obviously be better suited for someone non-white. Regardless, I’m such a fan of Prince of Persia that I’ll still be checking for this movie come release day. I’m also a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal’s acting. Lets hope Disney didn’t butcher the entertainment out of the flick. Enjoy.

TALKIES: Nowhere Boy (Trailer)

Hanway films is releasing a film based on the early years of John Lennon. It focuses on his growth, his relationship with his mother and aunt, and bandmate Paul McCartney; all things that would push him towards becoming an international icon. British actor Aaron Johnson will play Lennon and Thomas Sangster will play Paul McCartney. Kristin Scott Thomas will play Lennon’s aunt Mimi and Anne-Marie Duff will play Lennon’s mother Julia. I’ve done much reading on the origin of The Beatles, but I admit that I’ve never looked into the origin of the bands individual members, so this movie looks pretty interesting to me. No doubt it will garner much backlash from Beatle/Lennon loyalists, but that’s to be expected whenever you work in the realm of legends. Suffice to say, the people who don’t like the idea of this movie will still watch it. And if there’s any reason why, it’ll be to justify their own criticisms. Enjoy.

TALKIES: The Fourth Kind (Starring Mila Jovovich, Will Patton)
Filed Under TALKIES | Leave a Comment
The Fourth Kind, directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi, is advertised as a movie based on actual case studies and cut with real footage mixed in with the Hollywood shots. I’ve heard a lot about this movie but mostly that it’s really freaky. There are quite a few movies that are going for that “reality” look such as Paranormal Activity and in the past The Blair Witch Project, but it seems like The Fourth Kind takes that concept to the next level. I can’t wait to see what all the hype is on this film.

TALKIES: The Takers (Trailer)

The Takers, the much talked about film featuring currently incarcerated Hip Hop star T.I., and notorious girlfriend beater (lol) Chris Brown, finally has its trailer. The movie looks somewhere along the lines of Heat and a Guy Ritchie flick, but only because of Idris Elba finally taking a U.S. commercial role in his native UK accent. And from a few short clips, T.I.’s acting comes across as slightly more polished than his ATL role, but nevertheless an improvement. Chris Brown basically plays himself, lol. With all that said, it does look entertaining and I will admit that the production value is greater than I expected. Kudos T.I., you’ve made a believer out of me. The cast also includes Matt Dillon, Zoe Saldana, Michael Ealy, Paul Walker, Jay Hernandez & Hayden Christensen. You can expect Takers in theaters Feb. 26th, 2010. Isn’t T.I. scheduled for release around that time? THAT would be an incredible marketing plan. Lets see how this unfolds shall we?

TALKIES: John Woo’s Red Cliff (Trailer)

I’m a sucker for martial arts flicks. Even the contemporary martial arts EPIC gets me roused up. While I do admit that this movie doesn’t look like it presents anything new to the genre à la The Curse of the Golden Flower, I’m such a fan that it doesn’t even matter. And besides, this looks even more EPIC than the rest, if thats possible! On a sidenote: Why does it seem like every successive film shot in Asia is “ASIA’S MOST EXPENSIVE FILM EVER!” ? Red Cliff reportedly costs $80 mil. to film. I actually admire the budgets Asian movies have because if you notice, they seem to have no problem shelling out whatever amount for movies that promote their culture and history for the world to see. I wish America did that more often. Anywho, this one should be a definite must-see! Check out the trailer.

TALKIES: The Expendables (Promo Trailer)

*UPDATE: Stallone doesn’t want this one out the bag just yet, so he’s ordered it down.
Word around town is that studio bigwigs are having this promo video taken down, so I’m unsure how long this video will be up. Nevertheless, enjoy it while it lasts because it doesn’t look like an official trailer for this movie will be out any time soon. The Expendables is gearing up to be a return to classic action movie form, which is to say there will be plenty of cheesy lines, ass kicking, and explosions! The biggest draw is the cast, which is comprised of Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Steve Austin, & Dolph Lundgren to name a few. Excited yet? If the names I mentioned weren’t enough, supposedly Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis also make appearances in the film. August 20, 2010 will probably be the closest we get to the ultimate action film we’ve all dreamed of at least once growing up. I would paste the synopsis for the film, but honestly, who really cares about the plotline?

TALKIES: Toy Story 3D (Trailer)

Now here’s a sequel I can say I never expected to see the light of day. Pixar, arguably the BEST movie production company in the world (their track record is indisputably good), is finally gearing up to release a sequel in the franchise that skyrocketed them to “household name” status. This time around, the gang find themselves trying to cope with a college bound Andy. Simple enough plot, and definitely the next logical step in the series. I’m interested in seeing how else the story develops as we approach the release date, June 18, 2010. I’m sure we’ll get at least two more theatrical trailers to drool over before then. Have a gander!
