In the past year, Michael Jackson has earned $90 million. $72 million, or 80% of the $90 million made in the past year, was made after his passing. How much money did you make this past year? Better yet, how much money did I make this past year? Exactly. Here’s an excerpt from the Billboard.com article:

Jackson earned less than the $350 million that fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent scored in the past year, and the $235 million earned by the songwriting duo Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein.

Forbes counted money earned from October 2008-October 2009, even for Jackson, who died June 25. But about $72 million — or 80% of the $90 million earned in the past 12 months — came after Jackson’s death, said a spokesperson for GreenLight, a consultancy company that represents “delebs,” their term for dead celebrities still earning money.

On Wednesday, Jackson — along with AEG Entertainment and Sony — began raking in money for next year’s list as the concert-rehearsal documentary “This Is It” opened in 3,500 domestic theaters and around the world.

MTV released their annual hottest MC list a while ago and the man at the top of the list decided to chime in on why he felt Eminem should have been on the list.

MTV, Thanx for this nod of appreciation. Although I don’t strive to be ‘hot’ for any particular year, I thank you for the acknowledgment. My whole goal is to be recognized as the best ever. I created the term ‘best rapper alive’ as a sign of respect to my fallen comrades (Biggie and Tupac). I believe I’ve allowed a significant grace period, and I believe I would not be respecting myself if being the absolute best was not my goal, and that’s why I continue to push myself until exhaustion … salute.

Sidebar: Kanye moment if I may … Eminem?!?! I think you do the credibility of this list a disservice if you don’t thoroughly explain his omission. As of this second he has the highest selling rap album of the year and a scene stealing verse on the best ‘posse’ cut of the year . (*Hands mic back to Taylor Swift … and nobody was harmed, I apologize in advance.)

I agree.

1st he pushed a million copies in a week during a time when major artists are barely pushing half that in the same time period, now, Lil’ Wayne has upped the ante for Hip Hop by having the highest grossing Hip Hop tour of all time! When I first read the news I couldn’t believe it, but it goes to show you that Hip Hop still has a massive audience despite naysayers. Below I put up an excerpt I pulled from Billboard.com:

Seventy-eight Lil Wayne headlining arena and amphitheater concerts in North America from Dec. 14, 2008, through Sept. 6, 2009, grossed approximately $42 million and drew nearly 804,000 fans, according to Lil Wayne tour producer and tour business manager Shawn Gee, who also serves as president of music and entertainment at Sports & Entertainment Financial Group.

“It’s definitely one of the biggest in the last couple of years,” Gee tells Billboard.com, noting that Haymon Events/Live Nation was the exclusive tour promoter for all of the shows. “Our plan was to prove that Wayne was a viable headlining arena artist.”

The second highest-grossing rap tour that Billboard has tracked was Jay-Z’s 2008 jaunt with Mary J. Blige, which grossed $34.6 million and drew 310,694 concertgoers to 28 shows, according to Billboard Boxscore. Kanye West’s 2008 Glow In the Dark tour comes in third, having pulled in $30.8 million from 49 concerts that attracted 507,853 fans.

With all the hype going around that Asher Roth had sold 200 thousand copies of his debut album Asleep In The Bread Aisle many were starting to believe that Asher would do over 500K for his first week. Well, for those people I say believe half of what you see and none of what you hear because according to Billboard.com Rick Ross took the top spot on this weeks Billboard 200 by selling 158K in its first week. Asher actually debuted at #5 selling only 65K which is 5K short of what people were saying he sold in only 2 days.
