A book chronicling Kanye West’s “Glow in the Dark Tour” through photographs will be releasing soon, and I have a whole slew of possible additions courtesy of Love-Kanye.com! Not only did Kanye have his photographer document the stage and backstage antics, he also got solo shots of any and everyone that took part or just came to show support. Its always interesting looking at these moments in time. Afterall, the Glow in the Dark Tour is without a doubt a turning point in Hip Hop. No time before (and so far no time after) has there been a Hip Hop tour of such grandeur. While I’m sure there will be tours that take further steps, as of now, the Glow in the Dark Tour should be well remembered. This book will make sure of it. CurrentTV.com followed Mos Def around Japan, documenting his self-proclaimed “homecoming”, seeing as how he says he hasn’t been to Japan in nearly a decade! I love Japan, almost moved there even. What I find dope about this hour long documentary is how it not only explores Mos’ experiences in Japan and also provides an explanation for many of his interactions. The Japanese reaction to his music; their impressions and understanding of it is really an overall testament to his growth into an international artist. This is a hour long, so if you have some free time on your hands, its definitely worth a looksee.

For those that aren’t aware, NE.R.D. have added a new member to their roster, a talented (and pretty beautiful) singer by the name of Rhea. Along with the new addition, they’re hard at work in a NEW ALBUM entitled “Instant Gratification.” Band frontman Pharrell Williams is quoted as saying “[our] music is now very 3D.” N.E.R.D. has a reputation for being a group with critically acclaimed albums yet minor commercial success in comparison to the work they do under their moniker The Neptunes. Maybe, just maybe, Rhea will bring the dynamic necessary to catapult them to the big leagues, i.e. The Black Eyed Peas. Although it is a possibility that their music is a tad too left field for such ambitions. Either way, I’ve been a fan since day one and from the sounds of this new song that isn’t changing anytime soon. “Get Up” is somewhere within the realm of “Spazz” from their last album, which is to say its pretty good. I must say that 2009 has been a good year for music, but 2010 is shaping up to be a very great year for music.

FANFARE: Happy B-day Nasir Jones!
Filed Under FANFARE | Leave a Comment

The man, the legend, the father. Nas is many things to many people. To me, he’s a pioneer in Hip Hop. Nas, along with a handful of others set the course for what lyricism would mean within the realm of Hip Hop. I’m sure many bottles will be popped (or was this weekend) despite the ongoing legal battles between him and Kelis. For his B-day, I decided to throw up the remix to my favorite Nas song of all time, check below.

FANFARE: TiRon’s Throwing My Money Video Release Party @ The Echo in LA
Filed Under FANFARE | Leave a Comment

I think I’ve been waiting for this video ever since I heard this song and even though it took FOREVER it’s finally coming out! TiRon is finally dropping the video for “Throwing My Money” (prod. by Fisticuffs) and I’ve heard good things about it so hopefully the hype is real. The line up for this party is pretty crazy though…TiRon, Pac Div & Blu all on the same bill? With DJ Sean G and Sour Milk on the decks! And from the looks of this flyer it’s 18+ so everyone should come out! Check out the screen shot!

FANFARE: 3 Old People Review Eminem
Filed Under FANFARE | 2 Comments
So there’s this online show called Breakfast at Sulimay’s, which basically involved three elderly folks who listen to new music releases on the commercial and indie scene, and review them. This is very interesting because one thing we always think about growing up is the generation gap that time creates. Its as if you reach a certain age and settle in your ways for the rest of your life, then seemingly lose touch with popular culture. Basically, its nice to see fellow old folks that are still open to hearing new things. To top it off, its pretty funny, lol.

This weekend we celebrate the birth of two great friends and musicians, Carter & Be Young of Pac Div. If you remember what we did for Be Young’s birthday last year then you know what to expect, plenty smiles and plenty of drinking.
The party is broken up into 3 different spots:
Saturday - Secret Location (for close friends only, sorry)
Sunday - Daytime Pool Party @ The Standard in Downtown
Sunday - Crimson (get there early or you WON’T get in…that’s a promise)
So if you come out make sure you buy these fellas a drink and let them know they are appreciated.

Now I must admit that I’m digging the theme 88-key’s is using to promote his upcoming album Death of Adam. Its good to see some creativity behind Hip Hop projects and considering where things have been heading recently, I’m sure there will be much more in store. This video probably isn’t the best example of how the energy was in the room, but its worth a look. And of course, he previews songs we’ve heard featuring Kanye West, Kid Cudi, J Davey and others. Props to 88 for keeping Hip Hop fresh.
