LOL: Skank Robbers (Trailer)

I had heard about this airing on the BET Awards and I thought to myself, will it be funny? Fortunately the internet moves in speeds even the most surf-savvy person can find difficult to keep up with. The BET Awards played as three things, 1. A tribute to Michael Jackson, 2. A tribute to 90s music & 3. An awards show for todays artists. While many people say the show was overblown, they can’t argue that there were definite moments of greatness. The return of Sheneneh and Wanda is one. Ya’ll gonna get a kick out of this.

I must admit that I’m not that big of a fan of this video. The reason why is because the concept of the song itself is kinda obscure to me. More often than not, the music video should provide some reference material for songs that are somewhat “high concept”, but it didn’t clarify anything for me. Naturally, being that this is a Good Music video, the visuals aren’t bad at all. I’m going to take another gander at the video to see if I can catch what they were going for exactly. The one scene that really had me like “que?”, was the scene where the breakfast tray was sparkling. Does that mean that the breakfast tray is going “Supernova” also? Shouts out to Estelle for making a good looking cameo *wink*. Ya’ll check out the video and drop your comments.

Showing no sign in slowing down, Kanye keeps on with his latest creative feat, 808s & Heartbreaks Euro-Tour. These stills of his stage set are prime examples of that. IMO, the set is reminiscent of the scene in The Wiz when they reach the Emerald City. Visually, I know this will be incredible. When I attended the Glow in the Dark tour, aside from being blown away, I found the sound to be a little cluttered and overbearing. Many times it was difficult to even decipher what Kanye was saying and if I wasn’t such a fan, I would’ve definitely found it hard to sing along. I’m interested in seeing if there will be any improvements to the sounds. Or maybe it was just the venue I went to? Either way, sound is always a tricky issue when dealing with shows of this magnitude. Everyone thats stateside, don’t fret, I’m sure the tour will hit the U.S. after it wraps up in Europe.

So, it seems as if I’m the only one that digs this song. Yes, I know it sounds eerily similar to “Success” from his previous album, yes I know the flow is eerily similar to “Blue Magic”, and yes I know he has Drake on actual single for Blueprint 3. But, I still dig this song lol. The video is pretty straight forward and perfect for a street single. Notable features include, Lyor Cohen, Harvey Keitel, & Lebron James….all for LOOKS. Despite all of the star-studded cameos, my favorite part of the video is when he chops that old-man fro off. Gotta love it. Blueprint 3 in stores 9/11.

Klangschau, a German blog, had the honor of sitting down with Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips to chat about their upcoming album “Ebryonic”. Anyone that’s a fan of The Flaming Lips know to expect anything but the ordinary. One definite highlight to look forward to are the features; namely, MGMT & Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. From what I understand, this album is supposed to be going in a different direction sonically than their previous efforts which is exciting. For those not up on The Flaming Lips, check out one of my favorite songs from their last album At War With The Mystics:

WTF: Air Sex Championships

You’re probably reading the title and wondering exactly what Air Sex is. Well, it’s a lot like Air Guitar but way funnier. A few days ago they held the Air Sex Championships over at the Echoplex in Los Angeles and I can only imagine the debauchery that occurred. How it works is, you choose a song, you choose your costume and you get down with an imaginary love slave. Check out VIMBY’s coverage of the hilariousness…

MICHAEL JACKSON PASSES AWAY @ AGE ‘50′!

After hearing about the death of Farrah Fawcett I thought to myself, ” wow, a generation is fading away right before our eyes..” And while I had no real connection to Ms. Fawcett, I did have a major connection with Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson was without a doubt the biggest star on the planet. He has been a major icon for over three decades. I’m sure everyone had hoped Michael’s upcoming tour would be his major comeback, or even major encore performance. Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be. Fortunately, he leaves us with beautiful music to remember him by.

There have only been two M. Night Shyamalan movies I’ve enjoyed and thats Unbreakable, and the obvious fan favorite, The 6th Sense. Oftentimes I find his movies to be overly ambitious, pretentious, and down-right inconsistent. I’ve known about The Last Airbender for sometime now but have never really delved into the storyline behind it. All I know is, this preview looks very dope and is enough for me to head right on over to Wikipedia! Ya’ll check it out.

NEW JOINT: Nas - Film (Prod. C-Sick)

This is one of those Nas songs that makes you nostalgic for “It Was Written” era Esco, and also one of those joints that when you hear it, you say to yourself, “Man, Nas bringing that Escobar back, I can’t wait ’til his new album drops..!” And sadly, when the album drops, it doesn’t live up to your expectations. But, while there will never be another Illmatic, or It Was Written, Nas will always remain one of the most prolific writers in Hip Hop, period. C-Sick, the guy behind the beat to this new gem, was the winner of Redbull Big Tune 2008, and this was his prize, a chance to work with Mr. Nasir. Good job fellas…!
