WORD: Coachella 2009 Line-Up

Finally the news everyone has been waiting for has been OFFICIALLY released, the 2009 Coachella Line-Up. Is it me or is this years list not as crazy as last years list with the exception of a few people? Anywho, brief synopsis:
Headliners: Paul McCartney (Friday), The Killers (Saturday), The Cure (Sunday). OK, maybe not insane enough for you. Yet. But as always, it’s in the fine print of the Indio poster that the party takes full shape. Also on Friday: Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, Leonard Cohen, Conor Oberst, Beirut, Girl Talk, M. Ward, Crystal Castles, Buraka Som Sistema, the Hold Steady. For your Saturday: TV On The Radio, Band Of Horses, Fleet Foxes, Superchunk, Liars, Blitzen Trapper, Gang Gang Dance, Tinariwen, Ida Maria, Mastodon, Hercules & Love Affair. And Sunday? My Bloody fucking Valentine. (And Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Throbbing Gristle, PB&J, Antony, Lykke Li, Okkervil, Fucked Up, No Age, Vivan Girls, Gaslight Anthem, but yeah … MBV. Basically a double-headliner Sunday.)

It seems that today is the day of NEW JOINTS because I have a load of dope ass music to share with you all. This one comes from another one of my FAVORITE artists ‘Sufjan Stevens’. For those that don’t know this good man, brief synopsis, he’s a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. While some of his music may sometimes flirt with over-ambition, be rest assured that when you listen to his songs, there’s a good chance that ALL of it is him. This song is simply EPIC, and that’s the only way I can describe it, a bit lengthy also. Keep a look out for Dark Was The Night compilation dropping Feb. 17th!

VIDEO: Lykke Li - Tonight

One of my favorite artists right now, Lykke Li, who unsurprisingly also releases some of my favorite minimalist videos, has just dropped one for her song ‘Tonight’. What could be the largest draw of this video is the alternate version of the song. It gives the song an entire revamp for those people who have been listening to Lykke Li for sometime. And for those that haven’t, it might just peak your interest to explore her world.

Keeping the momentum going on his critically acclaimed album ‘The Renaissance’ Q-tip drops the remix to his joint ‘Renaissance Rap’. This is probably one of the dopest remixes of the year thus far, simply because it keeps to the basics and just lets the emcees emcee. I have to give it to Raekwon on this for having the hardest verse, there’s just something about when he be spitting that no matter what, brings back memories of Cuban Linx…and that’s nothing but a good thing, lol.. Give it a listen!

Here’s a new joint from Teriyaki Boyz featuring Kanye West and G.O.O.D Music artist Big Sean. Kanye definitely hasn’t lost a step as far as rhyming goes, 808’s and Heartbreaks has a lot of people fooled but this is a good reminder of how good of an emcee he is. Check it out.

NEW JOINT: Ryan Leslie - Gibberish

So awhile back we saw the video of Ryan in the studio playing around and recording this. At the time I didn’t think he’d release it as a song, which in my opinion is genius, LOL. Just goes to show that lyrics really aren’t NEEDED to make a song fresh. But by no means is music better without lyrics…..lyrical music that is, LOL. Check it out!

SMASH: Serius Jones Serves Charles Hamilton

Its always good to see emcee’s taking it to the essence of Hip Hop with a good test of wits. Apparently Charles Hamilton had a show in New York, and Serius Jones stopped by to support the young up and comer. A cypha turned into a battle and then everything got interesting. Ya’ll check it out, looks like everybody was enjoying the fun.
